PLATER WINS HIS FIRST EVER WINGLESS FINAL – STUCHBERY- MILES FATHER AND SON – WALKER AND SIELY ALL WINNERS AT BAIRNSDALE SPEEDWAY

Bairnsdale Speedway Association continued its Boxing Day traditional night of entertainment with a great family night out with Wingless Sprints featuring with their Eastern Series round along with all local classes. Craig Plater from Warrnambool claimed a first ever Wingless Sprint feature victory ahead of fancied Gippsland competition whilst Beau Stuchbery went back-to-back following last meetings victory in Division Two Hot Rods.

Also, Bree Walker from Trafalgar won the Ladies Standard Saloons, Mark Miles won the Open Standard Saloons, his son Nathan won the Junior Standard Saloons and Bairnsdale man Dillon Siely won the Limited Sportsman.

Plater was one of four heat race winners in the Wingless Sprints and with a fourth and a win from his two qualifying starts he put his race car on the front row for the feature race under lights. Tyler O’Leary from Rosebud, Wayne Logue from Morwell, and Dillon Siely competing in two classes through the program won his second heat after a crash in heat one tore his right rear tyre off the rim.

A couple of dash races sorted the top six out into their feature starting spots with Scott Cole and Plater putting themselves on the front row for the main event. Except for an early race pass and a late race pass, the top five of Plater, Ben Hodge, Tyler O’Leary, Wayne Logue and Scott Cole remained for almost all of the twenty-five laps. Late in the feature Dillon Siely moved into fifth and Cole back to sixth before Siely became a non-finisher with a race car no longer capable of finishing the race. Plater claimed the win from Hodge, O’Leary, Logue and Cole.

Troy Wilson won one heat race and Beau Stuchbery two in the Division Two Hot Rods before Stuchbery defeated Andrew Cormack, and teammates Troy Cormack and his stepmother Kate Stuchbery in a great result for their team.

Nathan Miles won all three qualifiers by more than nineteen seconds before winning the feature in Junior Standard Saloons by twenty-one seconds. Miles defeated Cooper Irons from Bunyip, Charli Perkins, Jayden Curtis and rookie Tailen Wells all of the Bairnsdale club in the final.

Mal Siely won all three qualifying races in the Limited Sportsman’s including one his son Dillon was leading before a late race mistake handed victory to his father. In the final however, Dillon snagged the lead from lap one and led all ten laps to win from dad Mal, with Tannah Lee in his rookie season in the class in third ahead of another rookie Ash Mackay.

Bree Walker won two of the three heats in Ladies Standard Saloon competition with Sharni Stuchbery winning the other. Walker was dominant in the final winning by almost a lap ahead of Sharni Stuchbery and Kate Stuchbery whom also competed in two classes on race day. Tasharni Murray finished in fourth with Maddison Logue rounding out the top five.

Jacob Vuillermin the state champion and Jack Braz both from the Rosedale Speedway Club won two heats in Open Standard Saloons with Mark Miles and Ash Cormack winning one apiece on the way to settling starting positions for their final. Vuillermin shot off to a lead when the green flag waved with Mark Miles and Braz slotting into second and third.

On lap eight, Vuillermin’s car poured out a little smoke and Vuillermin headed infield and out of the race handing the lead to Miles. Miles settled out front and Gus Argoon and Braz went at it for second. Argoon’s car gave up with issues and Braz was joined by Jack Yeomans with a small gap ahead of Zac Barwise from Colac close behind. Braz put late race pressure on Miles for the win however the experienced Miles held him off at the line with Braz, Yeomans, Barwise and Ashley Cormack completing the top five.

Bairnsdale Speedway returns on January 24th with the return of Super Sedan racing along with Compact Speedcars with both classes attending Bairnsdale and Rosedale Speedways in a double header weekend.
